Aspen Weekday Programs

The Aspen Center has been providing pediatric services and programs for over 18 years to the triangle area. We serve children birth to 16 years of age providing speech, occupational and feeding therapy in our clinic as well as through teletherapy.

The Orchard Program

The Orchard program is for children ages 2-5 and is an introduction to a group dynamic. This class is taught by our licensed and certified therapists who focus on routines, body regulation, communication, following directions and playing interactively with other children. Class size is limited to 4 children.

Orchard meets Wednesday and Friday 10:30-12:30

The Thicket

The Thicket program is for children ages 3-5 that focuses on structured classroom readiness and social communication within a classroom dynamic. This class is taught by both an SLP and OT and is focuses on the following:

  • Speech, language and social skills in a classroom setting with peers
  • Structured classroom readiness (Centers/Calendar Time/Selfcare)
  • Prewriting and Writing Development
  • Use of School Tools
  • Early Academic Skills
  • Cooperative Group Learning
  • Independent Work and Play
  • Motor Coordination

We continue to develop strategies to improve a child’s inhibition, emotional control and ability to follow group instruction in a more structured dynamic. Children will participate in activities such as cooking, science experiments, gross motor games and kids’ yoga. Class size is limited to 4 children This class does not replace individual therapy but is a class that provides an opportunity for the carryover of skills during small group instruction.

Skills needed to participate in the class:

• Foundations from the Orchard skills (similar program)
• Attempts to interact with peers
• Can follow simple directions (verbal or visual)
• Beginning to independently participate in some tasks and activities with minimal support from an adult
• Safety awareness skills -no climbing, hitting self/others and care with toys
• Must have speech-language & occupational therapy assessments prior to enrolling (Aspen or another agency) to determine eligibility for class.

 

The Apple Orchard Program

The Apple Orchard program is for children ages 3-5 with the goal of building on the foundations learned in individual therapy or other 1:1 instruction. This therapist taught class uses play-based instruction to teach children about a group dynamic. Kids will participate in music/movement, sensory play, arts/crafts, pretend play, circle time and more. The Apple Orchard group has a special emphasis on motor speech concerns and has a heavy focus on social interactive play, communication and sensory processing/regulation. We develop strategies to improve a child’s inhibition, emotional control and ability to follow group instruction. This group is perfect for a child that is ready for a more challenging program but still needs support learning the skills that make a group dynamic enjoyable and interactive. Class size is limited to 4 children This class does not replace individual therapy but is a class that provides an opportunity for the carryover of skills during small group instruction.

Skills needed to participate in the class:

  • Separate easily from parent
  • Shows interest/awareness of peers and a desire to
    participate and interact with others
  • Foundational social play skills including imitating others and responding to simple directions (verbal or visual)
  • Beginning to participate in some tasks and activities without constant support from an adult
  • Safety awareness skills -no climbing, hitting self/others and care with toys
  • Must have speech-language & occupational therapy assessments prior to enrolling (Aspen or another agency) to determine eligibility for class.

 

Aspen POWER CLASS

This program is taught by one of our Occupational Therapists and is for children ages 4-6 years old.

This hour long class focuses on:

  • Posture and Flexibility
  • Motor Coordination
  • Body Awareness
  • Endurance
  • Core Strength

 

Class Size limited to 4 children.

Child must be able to follow group instruction.

Cost: $100/month per class

Fine Motor Chefs Class

Our Chefs will use their fine motor skills to cook up some fun with their peers. Cooking is a great opportunity to practice fine motor skills, receptive/expressive language skills as well as social skills. Let’s face it….what is more social than cooking and eating together.
Taught by one of our licensed occupational therapists.

Class Size limited to 4 children.

Child must be able to follow group instruction.

Cost: $100/month per class
